Gasgrid Finland Oy and its subsidiaries (the “Contracting Authority”) is a multi-gas company of the future that promotes the transition to clean energy and the realization of an energy-efficient society. We are responsible for gas transmission and the transmission system in Finland, and we are developing the national hydrogen network. We strengthen Finland's economic growth, security of supply, and energy independence as a key part of the energy system, and we support the balancing power required for emission-free electricity production.
* We provide Finnish industry and businesses with safe, reliable, and cost-effective gas transmission.
* Our network transports natural gas, domestic biogas, liquefied natural gas (LNG), and, in the future, an increasing amount of renewable gases.
* We are developing a national, cross-border hydrogen transmission network under a mandate from the Finnish government. Our goal is to connect a large part of our country's industrial customers to the network by the early 2030s. Through our international infrastructure projects, we are preparing to meet the demand for clean gas energy in Europe as well.
With this request for information, we are looking for efficient and high-quality partners for diving surveys of endangered river mussels and freshwater mussels (Margaritifera margaritifera, Unio crassus) along the route of the national hydrogen transmission network during the 2026 nature survey season (possibly extending to 2027).
We require the following from our suppliers:
1) Sufficient experience in professional diving surveys of large mussels in Finnish flowing waters, as well as the surveyor having a research diver qualification that qualifies them for mussel research
2) The ability to carry out diving surveys of river mussels and freshwater mussels from the 2026 survey season onwards
3) Ability to provide a turnkey service as a professional service provider, paying particular attention to safety (Finnish safety regulations for research diving, safety requirements set by the Gasgrid Group, employee insurance, etc.).
The mapping work involved in the service is quite extensive, so we are looking for several partners. The route of the hydrogen transfer pipeline to be presented in the program phase of the EIA procedure is approximately 1,600 km long and intersects with an estimated 800 waterways of various sizes. The contracting authority can provide the exact route as geographic information upon request from the supplier candidate. However, the exact number and location of the watercourses to be surveyed are not yet known, but will be specified to the contracting authority before the actual tendering process begins, based on background work related to the environmental impact assessment (EIA) and negotiations with the authorities. According to a preliminary estimate, there are several hundred intersections between the watercourses to be mapped and the transfer pipes.
Interested candidates are requested to contact [email protected] by 4:00 p.m. (local time in Finland) on November 5, 2025, at the latest. Please write “Market survey on diving research on endangered large mussels” in the subject line of your email.
We will send each candidate a preliminary information form to fill out about their company and references. Our intention is to then invite 2-4 potential supplier candidates to a market dialogue with the Procurement Unit.
Please note that this request for information does not initiate the actual procurement procedure and does not bind the Contracting Authority to purchase the service in question.
